Modern façade in charred Black spruce with Teak-shade terrace

A single-storey house with minimalist form featuring a façade of charred Dragonwood spruce in deep Black, combined with warm, amber Teak timber on the pergola soffit and terrace boards. The carbonised spruce surface using the Shou Sugi Ban technique provides an intensely black, matt colour with a distinctive grain pattern, and ensures fire resistance, protection against moisture, fungi and insects. The contrast of the black façade with the illuminated Teak timber and view of the pond creates a cohesive architectural whole.

PROJECT TYPESingle-family house

Challenge

Achieving a striking contrast between the deep black façade and the warm timber of recreational zones whilst maintaining full resistance of both elements to external conditions.

Solution

The façade was executed in charred Dragonwood Black spruce, and the terrace and pergola soffit in warm Teak shade — both surfaces protected by charring, maintenance-free and biologically resistant.
